Short-term missions has been defined as "the God-commanded, repetitive deployment of swift, temporary non-professional missionaries." (Maximum Short-term Mission by Peterson, Aeschilman & Sneed)
In seeking to advance the fulfillment of the Great Commission, McKinney's involvement in short-term missions helps accomplish two strategic goals:
•First we desire to connect with our missionary partners (or other ministries) in a way that blesses them and enhances their work on the field. Being part of a Short-Term Mission team is a great way to make a difference!
•Secondly we hope to provide a life-changing, mission-growth experience.
Matthew 9.36 records that Jesus saw the crowds and felt compassion for them. Upon seeing their needs, He wanted to do something to help them!
It really is true - seeing is feeling. Most people after going on a short-term mission find their eyes opened to see the Lord and the needs of the world in amazing new ways.
Who can go?
Any interested Christ-follower is welcome to apply to many of the teams. Some teams have a specialized nature to their mission and as such participation on these is restricted.
How are the teams funded?
Some choose to cover the costs themselves. Others raise support by inviting others to give financially towards the costs of the mission. In all cases team members are asked to invite others to pray for the mission.
How do I sign up?
Just fill out an application.
Then, attend one of the interest meetings (these will be announced in advance in the church bulletin or as well as on the individual team link).
