It is vitally important that a church as large as MMBC has a healthy network of small communities. Growth Groups are life-transforming small communities that focus on engagement in ministry.
If life transformation is the goal and growth groups are meant to facilitate this goal, it is important to understand the definition of life transformation, and to understand how the vision for Growth Groups aligns to the overall vision of MMBC. We can’t assume that smaller groups automatically lead to spiritual growth and maturity. It is necessary to have a clear definition of what maturity looks like. In other words, what are these groups attempting to produce?
MMBC’s mission is to develop Christ-centered people who make a difference. Growth Groups contribute to this mission in the following ways:
G = Grow through personal spiritual development
R = Relationally connect with others in the group
O = Openhandedly partner with other ministries
W = Witness through authentic lifestyle evangelism
T = Transfer biblical truth to real world application
H = Harness present leaders to future leaders for discipleship
It is critical that the vision and mission for Growth Groups is in harmony with the overall vision and mission of the church, so that the end result of the growth process, as described by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4:13 is an individual “attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”
