Jeff's Story:
When I was six years old I remember making a comment to my dad about us not ever going to church. The next Sunday, our whole family went to church and continued to do so from then on. As we continued going to church and Sunday School I learned that I was sinful and separated from God and that I deserved hell. As a seven or eight-year old in Sunday School, my teacher told me about Christ dying on the cross and paying for my sins so I could be with God in heaven when I died. I thought that heaven sounded a lot better than spending eternity in hell, so I asked Jesus to come into my life and clean me from my sins.
Things didn’t change a whole lot in my daily life after that. When I was in middle school, our church hired a youth pastor who began investing in me personally. He showed me that being a Christian was so much more than just something you did to avoid hell. It was about truly being a follower of Christ. That led to a whole change in my lifestyle and my viewpoint. It was about Him giving me abundant life now, as well as for all of eternity. I began studying and memorizing the Scriptures on my own, and praying regularly. I shared Christ with my friends. Because of Christ I was and am a different person. While I still stumble and don’t always follow Christ as closely as I would like, I am confident that He is continuing to work in my life to make me like His Son as I seek to love Him and those around me.
